Technologist Degree in Renewable Energies

ABOUT THE DEGREE

Renewable Energies Engineering seeks to train professionals who promote, design, implement and manage the use of clean energy from primary sources of energy, such as solar, wind and hydraulic, among others, from the perspective of a sustainable human and productive development throughout the territory. This course has two specializations for the engineering degree: solar and wind energies. In addition, by completing six semesters, students may obtain a degree as Renewable Energy Technologists. 

High school graduates from the Secondary Education Council (CES) from the following tracks (or equivalent plans):

  • Physical-Mathematical
  • Mathematics and Deign
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Social-Economic
  • Biological Sciences

Technical High School graduates from the Technical and Professional Education Council from the following courses (or equivalent plans):

  • Technological High School (EMT) - Construction
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Chemistry and Thermodynamics
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Computing
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Administration
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Electricity - Electronics
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Electromechanics
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Ship Engine Operator
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Aeronautics (aircrafts system, propeller systems, avionics)
  • Technological High School (EMT) - Renewable Energies
  • Professional High School (BP) - Electronics
  • Professional High School (BP) - Construction (track: construction and electrical installations)
  • Professional High School (BP) - Renewable Energies
  • Professional High School (BP) - Biomass-Electrotechnology
  • Completion of the Technological High School (FINEST) - Electrotechnology
  • Completion of the Technological High School (FINEST) - Renewable Energies

Other educational backgrounds will be analyzed by the Degree Coordinator, as established in article 5 of the General Studies Regulations (Res. of the provisional CBD Nº 249/17 dated May 23rd, 2017) and in accordance with the procedures defined to this effect.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY TO THE ENGINEERING SECTION OF THE RENEWABLE ENERGIES DEGREE

Applicants who meet any of the following requirements may enter the seventh semester of the degree:

  • Graduates from the Technologist Degree in Renewable Energies - Specialized in Wind Energy (UTEC) - Graduates from the Technologist Degree in Renewable Energies – Specialized in Solar Energy (UTEC)
  • Undergraduate students from other universities with incomplete studies in the following degrees, with at least 274 earned credits: Bachelor's Degree in Physics (Physics – UdelaR), Engineering Degrees. These students must take the "Bridging Program" as provided in Annex V, prior assessment of their educational background by the Degree Coordinator:
  • Technological Engineers from CETP-UTU graduated from Electronics, Electrotechnology, HSEC Technician and Aeronautics must take the "Bridging Program" as provided in Annex V.
  • Engineers, from all specializations, with a university degree must take the "Bridging Program" as provided in Annex V.
  • Graduates from the Teacher's Degree in Physics and Mathematics from CFE/ANEP must take the "Bridging Program" as provided in Annex V.

Graduates from this degree will be competent to:

  • Promote, design, implement and administer the use of clean energies from primary energy sources such as solar, wind and hydraulic energy, with a sustainable and efficient vision.
  • Design a development plan for a solar or wind energy system, integrated into the electricity grid.
  • Design solar space or water heating systems for domestic use.
  • Design solar thermal or photovoltaic systems, including system components, for homes and businesses
  • Propose changes to processes or infrastructure to improve power generation performance or reduce operating costs.
  • Know the appropriate regulatory framework to apply in renewable energy generation systems.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation plans for wind or solar energy systems. Interpret diagrams or documentation related to said power generation systems
  • Install and operate microgeneration systems.
