Strategic Research Group Sustainable Agrifood Production

The Strategic Research Group for Sustainable Agrofood Production develops research linked to sustainable agrofood production. It addresses the main agri-food value chains in the South West of Uruguay. For him, he also generates dissemination and linkage activities within and outside of UTEC. The group uses the Territorial I+D Agendas as a tool to prioritize research topics together with territorial actors. Currently, work is being done on the Agenda for the dairy sector.

  1. Circularity in agro-food production: Valuation of various by-products, waste or waste from food production through the development of new products that are applied both by the establishment that generates them and by others.
  2. Valuation of products and their link to a territory and/or to certain production processes.
  3. Effects of different variables on the quality of food products.
  4. New technologies and systems for sustainable agricultural production.
  5. Innovation and cooperativism in agri-food. It seeks to bring differential value and innovation to vulnerable groups, through an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Production of microalgal biomass for use in the agroindustry (biofertilizers).
  • Valuation of honey and other hive products in the Montes de Queguay Protected Area: characterization by differential parameters.
  • Primary production systems, their link with the fatty acid profile and their effects in Manteca and Queso.
  • Microorganisms sporulated in raw milk and evaluation of lipolytic and proteolytic activity.
  • New sustainable systems for the production of food for livestock: Production of hydroponic green fodder from wastewater.
  • New systems to improve the growth, resistance and quality of crops, reducing dependence on synthetic chemical products: effect of the application of magnetic fields in agro-food production processes.
  • New tools for measuring pasture availability adapted to livestock and livestock production systems in Uruguay.
  • Case study of the Esperanza Young Center, to value regional production, optimize logistical processes and extend the useful life of manufactured products.
